Samsung's C-Lab To Debut Four VR Projects At MWC 2017

Samsung Electronics’ Creative Lab (C-Lab) will debut four new virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) project at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), the company announced on Tuesday. C-Lab’s upcoming VR and AR projects that are set to be presented during the Barcelona-based trade show are Relúmĭno, Monitorless, VuildUs, and traVRer.

The South Korean tech giant revealed that Relúmĭno is a Gear VR app designed to assist visually impaired people. Relúmĭno will allow users to watch TV, read books, and enjoy other types of entertainment that they could hardly experience otherwise. Simply speaking, the app utilizes a camera of a Samsung-made phone and enhances writing and other visuals so that users can see them more easily. Relúmĭno can also remap blind spots and correct images that were distorted by metamorphopsia, a condition that prevents people from clearly seeing straight lines. As its name suggests, Monitorless is a solution that allows you to use a computer or a smartphone without a monitor. The technology remotes into a device and allows you to see its screen through a pair of smart glasses that look like traditional sunglasses but are equipped with an electrochromic glass that allows for both AR and VR implementations. Monitorless even supports streaming of high-end PC games as its creators explained their solution was also meant to address the general lack of quality AR and VR content.

Furthermore, VuildUs is a VR app designed to function as a home furnishing simulation. It requires a compatible smartphone and a 360-degree camera that scans your house and creates a digital recreation of it, after which it allows you to decorate your virtual home with numerous products. In other words, VuildUs sounds like a VR counterpart to Tango-powered AR apps like Amazon Product Preview. Finally, Samsung’s C-Lab also unveiled traVRer, a solution for recording and experiencing 360-degree travel videos. Check out the gallery and videos below for a short preview of C-Lab’s upcoming solutions. The latest iteration of MWC is scheduled to officially kick off on Monday, February 27, so more details on the Samsung’s latest VR and AR initiatives are bound to follow soon.
