Samsung Galaxy Note 5 units in Turkey are now receiving the latest iteration of Android, which happens to be Android 7.0 Nougat. Like every new major version of Google’s operating system, this package is bringing a host of new features to the Galaxy Note 5. Its firmware version is N920CXXU3CQC7 and the update weighs in at 1.29GB, which is unsurprising considering it is a major update. The package is being pushed out as an over-the-air (OTA) update, so it might take a few days before all users in Turkey receive the aforementioned update. It is also likely that the update will be pushed to users in other countries over the next few weeks as software updates are usually pushed out in stages to avoid overloading the servers.
Android 7.0 Nougat ships with many new features like an improved Doze Mode and new threaded notifications which allow you to expand app notifications from the notification shade. For example, if you receive WhatsApp messages from five different chats, you may pull down the notification shade and read a specific chat and reply to it. All this can be done without opening the WhatsApp app, though it should be noted that only some apps support this feature. A blue light filter option has also been added to the quick options menu and is useful for people who use their device in the dark. On top of that, Samsung introduced a lot of design changes to its UI to complement Android 7.0 Nougat.
Just last month, Samsung Turkey sent out an extensive roadmap which detailed devices in the company’s large portfolio that are scheduled to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update. The roadmap indicated that the Galaxy Note 5 would receive the update in early to mid-March, and Samsung has certainly kept its word in this case. Other devices such as the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016) and the Samsung Galaxy A8 are set to receive the jump to Android 7.0 Nougat as some point in April. The Galaxy Note 5 was first launched in August of 2015 and even though it is almost two years old now, it is still a very capable device that’s receiving regular updates, as evidenced by its jump to Nougat.
