Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the co-founders of Google and now Alphabet, write a founders letter each year, recapping the advancements and changes that the company has made in the previous year. Ahead of today’s earnings call at 1:30PM PDT, Page has released that founders letter, and he talks about a couple of the new companies that have come out of X, their division of experimental products and services. Topping that list is Waymo and Verily. While Waymo launched earlier this year, Verily launched in December of 2015, both with very capable and experienced CEO’s at the helm.
Page also congratulates a couple of new CEO’s under the Alphabet umbrella, which includes Marwan Fawaz, who became the CEO of Nest last year, after Tony Fadell left the company. Greg McCray also took the reigns at Google Fiber recently, both of which are doing great with their teams, according to Page. Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence was a big topic in the Founder’s Letter this year, as they have both been a big part of Google and Alphabet’s products and services in the past year.
With Artificial Intelligence, Page talks about Google Assistant, which uses AI quite well, and while the Assistant isn’t perfect just yet, it’s getting better and better everyday. Both Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are a big part of the Google Cloud, which Page says is doing really well with Diane Greene in Charge. While both of these technologies are big in the cloud, just about every company at Alphabet is actually using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to help advance all sorts of aspects of their products and services.
Page and Brin are doing quite well with the new setup of Alphabet being the umbrella over everything that Google does. As of today, they will be reporting earnings as Alphabet for two years, which is rather impressive. It was in 2014 that Page announced the formation of Alphabet and made Sundar Pichai the CEO of Google – Page also says that Pichai is doing an outstanding job heading up the search giant.
