Rumor: Xiaomi Mi 6's Home Key Will Sport A Vibration Motor

Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 6, has been leaking like crazy recently, and some additional home button-related info just surfaced as well. According to a new post on Weibo (Chinese social network), the device will sport a home button below the display, which will double as a fingerprint scanner, but won’t be a physical home key it seems, like it was on the Xiaomi Mi 5. The Xiaomi Mi 6 will use an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, like the one we’ve seen on the Xiaomi Mi 5s, at least if the rumor is to be believed.

Now, the phone’s home key will give you feedback one you press down on it, we’re not looking at a capacitive key here, but a home key similar to the one the iPhone 7 sports. Once you press down on it, you’ll active a vibration motor which is built into the phone. This creates a rather strange feeling if you’ve never used something like that, especially if that vibration motor is rather powerful, like it is on the iPhone 7. Now, a China-based analyst, Mocha RQ, actually shared some additional info regarding all this, he said that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will use a vibration motor which costs under $1. Why is this important? Well, in comparison, the iPhone 7 uses a vibration motor which is priced at around $10, and even though that doesn’t have to mean anything, it makes us wonder how powerful will the vibration motor in the Xiaomi Mi 6 be, will it offer enough feedback or not? Do keep in mind that this is just a rumor though, we’re not even sure that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will sport such a home key, let alone how much will its vibration motor cost. The Xiaomi Mi 6 will be announced on April 19, we’ll have far more info then.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 will be made out of metal and glass if rumors and leaks are to be believed. The Xiaomi Mi 6 could resemble its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi 5, quite a bit when it comes to design. This smartphone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 835 SoC, and will ship in two variants, both the Xiaomi Mi 6 and Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus are expected to land on April 19. Android Nougat will come pre-installed on the Xiaomi Mi 6, and on top of it, you’ll get Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 OS.
