Rumor: Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 To Sport A Much Better Earpiece

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 is expected to launch later this year, and according to a new report, it will sport a rather interesting earpiece technology. The Xiaomi Mi MIX managed to surprise us all when Xiaomi launched the device last year. That phone came with no bezels on its sides or above its display, only a rather small ‘chin’ below the display. Now, in order to achieve this, Xiaomi had to move some sensors below the display (including the front-facing camera), and utilize a piezoelectric ceramic speaker instead of the earpiece. This speaker vibrated the whole phone, basically, but it did not provide such a great sound quality, which ultimately caused some rather bad earpiece reviews for the Xiaomi Mi MIX.

Well, the company is aiming to replace the piezoelectric ceramic speaker with some new tech, though the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 won’t have a traditional speaker either. It seems like Xiaomi is working with AAC Technologies in order to create a new speaker for the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2. Now, for those of you who have not heard of AAC Technologies, this company tends to make tiny speakers and vibrators for haptics, and they pretty much know what they’re doing, they’ve been making smartphone components for a long time now. According to an analyst, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2’s speaker will be closer to a 3GPP standard, and should offer a significantly better output than the one we’ve seen in its predecessor. We still do not know when exactly will the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 land, but if the company intends to stick to their release schedule, the phone will launch in Q4 this year.

Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, already confirmed that the Mi MIX 2 is coming, and he also mentioned that the company is looking to increase its screen-to-body ratio even further. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 will likely sport a rather huge display, just like its predecessor, and it will ship with high-end specs. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core SoC will probably fuel this phablet, and you can expect to see 6GB of RAM included in the phone as well. Android Nougat will ship out of the box on the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, and we’ll get MIUI 8 or MIUI 9 OS on top of it.
