Li Nan: Meizu Won't Release A Bezel-Less Smartphone In 2017

Bezel-less smartphones have managed to become quite popular lately, and a lot of manufacturers seem to be planning to release their very own versions of bezel-less devices, not Meizu though. The company’s Vice President (VP), Li Nan, said that Meizu has no plans to release a bezel-less smartphone in 2017, which means some earlier rumors have been wrong. The company might be preparing something “awesome” to show us in 2018, which sounds quite a bit cryptic, but there you have it.

The company’s VP said that Meizu’s designers have second thoughts about bezel-less devices, as they question how practical they are, and also the placement of a fingerprint scanner is also an issue. This does come as a surprise considering that the company’s CEO did say that Meizu is working on a smartphone with a great design and what not, but it seems like that smartphone won’t exactly fit in the ‘bezel-less’ category of devices. This makes us wonder what is Meizu planning to release this year in order to awe users, as the company’s CEO did say last year that Meizu’s design is becoming quite stale, and was asking from his designers to bring it up a notch. It remains to be seen what will Meizu introduce, but it is worth mentioning that the Meizu PRO 7 is expected to land in the coming weeks, Meizu was actually expected to launch their flagship last month, but that didn’t happen, so hopefully it will by the end of May.

We’ve seen a ton of rumors and leaks when it comes to the Meizu PRO 7, but it seems like that phone will have more bezel than we thought. In any case, you can expect the Meizu PRO 7 to come with the company’s mBack multifunctional home key, Meizu’s Flyme OS which will be installed on top of Android, though the design remains a mystery. The Meizu PRO 7 will probably ship with MediaTek’s Helio X30 64-bit deca-core processor, while you can expect to see the Exynos 8895 included in the company’s second flagship which will almost certainly land at the end of this year, at least if Meizu intends to stick to its release cycle.
