The Samsung Internet Browser for Android devices got a new form-filling feature in the form of Smart Go Next, a solution designed for intelligent online form navigation that seeks to facilitate the process of entering your data into numerous fields while simultaneously minimizing the risk of things going wrong if the user ends up pressing the wrong button, mainly “Go” or “Enter.” The functionality revamps your keyboard to a degree, most notably by either removing or shifting the confirmation key meant to send a request before you actually need it, i.e. prior to the form itself being completed. It also makes navigating online forms on smartphones and tablets more straightforward, replacing the “Go” button with a “Next” one when possible and providing users with other shortcuts for quickly jumping between various form elements without having to close their virtual keyboards and scroll through a page.
Google previously experimented with a similar idea as part of its Chromium project and Samsung’s software developers took an interest in the feature seeing how they were in the process of creating something along the same lines, having ultimately contributed to the open source initiative and developed a Chromium variant of Smart Go Next. The functionality is hence set to be part of the Chrome 62 build on the stable channel where it’s enabled by default and the Samsung Internet Browser app based on Chromium 62 will also be able to take advantage of it. While the South Korean tech giant has already been offering a similar capability on its devices for a while now, the limitations of Android and the previous scope of the project prevented the company from transitioning the same feature to third-party offerings and browsers, with its Chromium-related efforts now seeking to make it available to more users. Likewise, owners of Samsung devices who prefer to use some third-party Android keyboard will also be able to benefit from Smart Go Next, the phone maker confirmed.
