Earlier today Razer officially introduced its first smartphone, the Razer Phone. While this is the first phone to come through from the company since it gained a wealth of know-how through the acquisition of Nextbit – the company behind the cloud-based ‘Robin’ smartphone, it is also the first smartphone to come from the company under its Razer branding in general. Along with announcing the new phone today, Razer has also now provided firm details on the availability of the Razer Phone for interested buyers in the US, as well as its pricing.
In short, those interested in being the first to get their hands on the Razer Phone can reserve one starting from today. At present, this is not a device that is destined to make its way to carriers and instead is being sold as an unlocked model directly from Razer’s online store as through other online retailers, including Amazon. Reservations are due to remain open until November 17 when the Razer Phone will become generally available to buy and presumably when the first batch of devices will be shipped out to those who reserved first. In terms of price, and due to this being sold as a single unlocked model (no additional variants announced), the Razer Phone has arrived with only one US price tag attached, $699. For that price however, this is a device which will more likely appeal to gamers. As not only has Razer looked to ensure the display is gamer-optimized (through the employment of a 120Hz UltraMotion display – a ‘first’ on a smartphone), but the rest of the package has also been tweaked to offer a better gaming experience overall. Including a greater than usual capacity battery, a higher RAM count, and stereo front-facing speakers.
In terms of the general numbers, the Razer Phone features a 5.72-inch display along with a 2560 x 1440 resolution. As mentioned this is the first smartphone to come equipped with a 120Hz display. Inside, the Razer Phone comes packed with a significant 8GB RAM, 64GB storage, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor. Following in the trend of a number of high-profile 2017 smartphones, the Razer Phone adopts the use of a dual rear camera setup, comprised of two 12-megapixel cameras. This is in addition to the 8-megapixel camera which can be found on the front of the device. Additional features worth noting include a 4,000 mAh capacity battery which supports Quick Charge 4.0+ (another ‘first’), external storage support via microSD (up to 2TB), 4G LTE support, and Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) as the pre-installed operating system version.
