The T-Mobile variant of the HTC U11 Life is now receiving a software package that will upgrade the device’s operating system to Android 8.0 Oreo. The update brings new features to the mid-range handset, including the new picture-in-picture mode. This functionality allows the user to view two applications at the same time, with one application placed inside a smaller window on top of another application. Android 8.0 Oreo also brings the notification dots, a feature that alerts people on which applications have notifications directly from the home screen. The new autofill framework, on the other hand, remembers important information including usernames, passwords, and credit card details, making it easier for users to log in to apps and websites. Google also managed to significantly reduce the boot-up times of handsets with Android Oreo while improving the security of smartphones through Google Play Protect, which scans applications stored in the handset for malware or other forms of potentially damaging software.
The software package is being distributed automatically, although it may take several days before all handsets receive the update. It is important that the installation file is downloaded using a Wi-Fi network, since getting the software upgrade through mobile data networks may result in additional carrier charges. To prevent loss of important data, users are advised to back up the files and images stored in the device and to verify if the battery of the smartphone has sufficient charge to last the entire procedure. In addition, people should check if there is enough free space in the internal flash storage in order to temporarily keep the software package.
The HTC U11 Life was launched in November 2017, and it is powered by the Snapdragon 630 chipset from Qualcomm. This SoC is comprised of an octa-core ARM Cortex A53 64-bit CPU with a maximum frequency of 2.2GHz and the Adreno 508 GPU. The T-Mobile variant of the handset contains 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal flash storage that could be expanded by a microSD card. The HTC U11 Life also sports IP67 water and dust resistance certification, which means that the smartphone can survive being submerged underwater for a short period of time. The handset includes a 5.2-inch Super LCD display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels as well as a 2,600mAh non-removable battery to keep its lights on.
