AMC announced last week that it was working on a program that would rival Moviepass, and give its customers a way to see up to three movies per week for just $19.95. The program was named A-List, and it was supposed to launch in July, but AMC decided to launch it a bit early. The company announced that AMC A-List is available beginning today, and customers can sign up today for $19.95.
With AMC A-List, customers will get all of the same benefits as AMC Stubs Premiere – which includes free popcorn and drink upgrades, and dedicated lines at the theater – but also have the opportunity to watch up to three movies per week. In its frequently asked questions webpage, AMC stated that the week will reset Friday morning. So between Friday and Thursday, you can watch up to three movies. There’s no limit on which movies you watch, you can watch the same movie three times in that week if you wanted too. Additionally, this is also available for RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema and IMAX movies as well, which are typically more expensive. Considering a single ticket is usually around $12 at AMC right now, just watching two movies a month will more than pay for AMC A-List, making it a pretty good deal.
AMC launched A-List after it saw how popular Moviepass had become. Moviepass offered its subscription for $9.99 per month, and you can see a new movie every day of the week. However, you cannot see the same movie twice, you also cannot book movies in advance, and you must wait for a physical card to come in the mail before you can use it (which Moviepass says can take up to two weeks). AMC decided to limit the number of movies you can watch, but also allow users to book tickets in advance, and include all of its existing benefits that AMC Stubs Premiere members already get, for $19.95 per month. Which while it is twice as much as Moviepass, it is a better deal, though for less theaters. The fact that Dolby Cinemas and IMAX cinemas are part of this program however, makes it worthwhile for many.
