Chinese smartphone manufacturer OPPO recently launched its OPPO Reno handset lineup in Europe during an event that took place in Zurich, Switzerland. This launch event comes two weeks after OPPO initially unveiled its newest device series in China earlier this month.
OPPO announced the availability of three variants of the OPPO Reno in Zurich. These variants include the standard edition of the OPPO Reno, the Reno 10X Zoom Edition, and a 5G-capable model of the handset. These smartphones feature mostly similar designs, with thin bezels surrounding the display made possible by a sliding mechanism that hides the 16-megapixel front-facing camera.
The standard edition of the OPPO Reno is decidedly a mid-range device, with the handset sporting a Snapdragon 710 chipset. The smartphone also features a 6.4-inch AMOLED display, with a resolution of 2,340 by 1,080 pixels, and it features two rear shooters equipped with one 48-megapixel sensor and one 5-megapixel imaging module. This device comes in two hardware variants, which may include either 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage or 8GB of RAM and 256GB of flash storage.
Meanwhile, a key design difference between the standard version of the Reno and its 10X Zoom-capable counterpart is the presence of a third rear camera. This third shooter at the back features a 13-megapixel camera that utilizes a periscope telephoto lens to achieve 10X hybrid zoom. Previous leaks already hinted about how 10X hybrid zoom retains the details of the images even if the camera focuses on a subject within the photograph. Aside from the 13-megapixel camera, the handset also features a 48-megapixel primary shooter and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle shooter.
Unlike the standard version of the OPPO Reno, the 10X Zoom Edition of the handset features premium hardware internals. The device sports the Snapdragon 855 SoC, and it only comes in a hardware variant that contains 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal flash storage. It also features a larger 6.6-inch display, compared to the smaller 6.4-inch panel of the standard version of the smartphone. A 4,065mAh battery powers the device and it supports VOOC 3.0 technology for quick top-ups of the handset’s power pack.
Both the standard version and the 10X Zoom Edition of the OPPO Reno were already launched by OPPO in China, although during the release event in Zurich, the smartphone manufacturer also unveiled another variant of its Reno lineup, which is the 5G-capable variant of the device. The OPPO Reno 5G is based on the 10X Zoom variant of the smartphone, but this handset features a supplementary Snapdragon X50 modem that allows the smartphone to connect to 5G networks. The handset maker worked with several carriers around the world, including Swisscom in Switzerland, to make sure that the smartphone works with the 5G networks deployed by operators.
In terms of pricing, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer priced the standard version of the OPPO Reno at €500, which translates to a price tag of $557, and it will become available to consumers starting on May 10th. Meanwhile, the OPPO Reno 10X Zoom Edition ships with a price tag of €799 (around $892), while the 5G version of the smartphone will cost interested consumers €899 (around $1,002). However, the 10X Zoom variant of the handset will only ship to customers starting this June.
