Update For Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Adds Google Fit Syncing

Niantic has just put out an update for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite that adds support for Google Fit syncing.

This comes in the form of a new feature for the game that was designed to interact with your fitness goals. The feature is called Adventure Sync, and it’s available right now to enable within the game.

What it does is allow you to sync your walking distance with your Google Fit account. That way any walking distance you rack up can be viewed from within the Google Fit app for broader health goals.

You can sync with Google Fit even if Harry Potter: Wizards Unite isn’t running

The new feature works really anytime you go out to walk. You don’t even have to have Harry Potter: Wizards Unite running in the foreground to allow recording.

According to Niantic the feature was setup so that it can even sync your walking distance to Google Fit from the background. Meaning the phone can simply be in your pocket as you take a stroll and it’ll still get the job done.

Making fitness more rewarding

A main reason for this feature is to make fitness more rewarding. Even if you’re just walking to get somewhere.

If you have this feature enabled, any walking you do will connect to Google Fit without the game running. Google Fit then records all of your walking distance and applies that to your Portkey Portmanteaus.

This means where you would normally need to open the game and play it to acquire unlocking progress for those items, you no longer have to.

This is great news for avid players of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. If you play the game often you more than likely have quite a few of those portkeys. But most people probably don’t have time to play the game continuously.

Niantic felt this shouldn’t mean that progress towards unlocking the portkeys wasn’t recorded. Since players potentially walk a lot more outside of playing the game.

Granted, your phone obviously still has to be on you. But you can still technically play without having to actually play. In a sense. And if you walk enough to unlock any portkeys, the next time you play the game they’ll be ready to open so you can use whatever’s inside.

Adventure Sync was developed to be a completely optional feature. If players would rather not have it enabled, it’s possible to turn it off and keep it that way. You can also turn it on at any time. Meaning you can have enabled sometimes and disabled at others.
