The LG Velvet launched last month as the South Korean company’s newest premium offering. The handset initially arrived in four color options, namely Aurora Gray, Aurora Green, Aurora White, and Illusion Sunset. Now, just a few weeks after the launch, it is getting three more color variants.
The new LG smartphone is now also available in Aurora Blue, Aurora Red, and Aurora Pink colors in the domestic market. However, they are not available as widely as the initial offerings. In fact, each of the three new colors is carrier-exclusive.
The Aurora Blue color is available only through SK Telecom while the Aurora Red is exclusive to KT Corporation (Korea Telecom). Lastly, the Aurora Pink color variant of LG Velvet is exclusive to the company’s own cellular carrier network, LG U+ (LG Uplus Corporation).
Powered by the Snapdragon 765G SoC, the LG Velvet is a 5G-capable premium smartphone. Its key specifications include a 6.8-inch OLED display, 8GB of RAM, 128GB storage, 48-megapixel triple rear camera setup, 4,300 mAh battery with 25W fast charging, IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, and MIL-STD-810G military-grade build.
LG Velvet gets three new color options
Although the LG Velvet isn’t quite a true flagship smartphone, it has got a premium look thanks to the new design language and vibrant colored body.
However, the company doesn’t seem to be content with the four colors it already offers and is adding more. Maybe it is banking on the new colors to drive sales of this smartphone.
LG launched the Velvet smartphone with a price of KRW 899,800 in its home country, which roughly translates to $745 or €665 as of now. The pricing makes this phone slightly over-expensive for what it offers.
While it’s not known how well the phone is selling in South Korea, its pricing coupled with the ongoing global health crisis likely isn’t helping the company to attract buyers.
It remains to be seen if a new paint job brings any change.
It’s unclear if and when LG plans to bring the new color variants of the LG Velvet in international markets. The company’s Italian website currently lists the phone in only three colors: Aurora Gray, Aurora Green, and Aurora White.
Reports last month suggested that the LG Velvet would arrive in the US around the 15th of this month.
There’s no follow up to it since, so we’ll have to wait and see if it goes on sale stateside in the coming weeks. There’s no word on its pricing in the US yet.
