HMD Global Reveals Big September Event For Nokia Next Week

HMD Global has now set a launch event for Nokia-branded handsets on September 22, reports indicate. The event, according to HMD Global, will be centered around a “new chapter for Nokia phones.”

Now, exactly what those phones will be is not something that’s been revealed. But HMD Global’s use of the word “phones” does imply that there will be several. There will also be a ‘very special guest’ for the event, according to the company.

As to the timing of the event, the company reveals that it will kick off at 3:00 pm GMT — 11:00 am ET.

What Nokia devices is HMD Global expected to launch at this event?

As to what, exactly, HMD Global will launch in terms of Nokia phones, that’s much less clear. The company has been speculated to launch at least two phones in September. That follows on expectations that the company would launch no fewer than five phones in the last half of 2020.

The two handsets expected this month include the Nokia 3.4 and Nokia 2.4, based on those prior reports.

If leaks about the gadgets hold, the Nokia 2.4 will land with a MediaTek Helio P22 processor. That’ll be backed by up to 3GB RAM and up to 64GB storage. A 4,500mAh battery is expected behind that for the handset. As is a dedicated Google Assistant button.

The HMD Global-built Nokia 3.4 would be the more powerful of the handsets, as its branding implies.

Information about the device has been more detailed. To begin with, it’s expected to start out with 3GB RAM rather than being maxed out there. And it’s expected to have 32GB and 64GB options. The processor is expected to be a Snapdragon 460 SoC, backed by a 4,000mAh battery.

All of that, rumors suggest, is tucked behind a 6.52-inch, 720 x 1,600 resolution display panel.

Around the back, the Nokia 3.4 is predicted to arrive with a 13-megapixel, 5-megapixel, and 2-megapixel tri-camera array. There will also, if that holds true, be an 8-megapixel selfie snapper and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

When will customers get their hands on these?

Now, there’s no guarantee that any of these devices will launch in the US. And any speculation about specs or pricing should be taken with a grain of salt. Anybody wanting to watch the event can see it streamed live via the official Nokia Mobile YouTube channel.
