Samsung May Launch A 30W Charger Alongside Galaxy S21 Series, Sold Separately

Samsung is reportedly working on a new 30W charger for its smartphones. The charger could be available around the same time as the Galaxy S21 series but will not be bundled with the new flagships. It will be sold separately. The Galaxy S21 series will ship with a 25W charger in the box instead.

To recall, the Galaxy S20 series also gets a 25W charger in the box although the devices support up to 45W fast wired charging. The more powerful power brick is available to buy separately for $49.99.

It’s not entirely clear why Samsung is developing a 30W charger when it already has a 45W charger. Perhaps the Galaxy S21 phones will have their wired charging speeds capped at 30W. That would be disappointing, to say the least. More so when rival companies are offering much faster wired charging speeds with their flagships. The OnePlus 8T, for instance, supports an impressive 65W fast charging, and it does ship with a 65W charger in the box.

Samsung was one of the first companies to mock Apple when the Cupertino giant revealed that the iPhone 12 series will ship without a charging adapter in the box. However, a recent regulatory certification listing for the Galaxy S21 series in Brazil suggested that the Korean behemoth is following the same route.

The upcoming Samsung flagships may come without the power brick in the South American country, and possibly in some regions as well. A USB Type-C to Type-C cable will be included in the box though. If buyers already have a USB Type-C power adapter, they can use that. Otherwise, they will have to buy the charger separately. Samsung is seemingly readying a 30W charger for such customers.

There are also reports that the new charger will retail at a lesser price than the existing 25W charger. And that’s because it comes without the USB Type-C cable. Samsung is cleverly taking a leaf from Apple’s books just months after mocking the iPhone maker for the very same step.

The report also reiterates that only the Galaxy S21 Ultra will support the S Pen. We reported earlier today that Samsung is developing special cases for the phone with slots to house the S Pen. At least the Silicone Cover and the Clear View Cover for the Galaxy S21 Ultra will have S Pen slots, though there may be more in the offering.

Normal versions of the cover will also be available though, as not everyone would be wanting to buy the stylus. Samsung will likely launch the Galaxy S21 series on January 14, 2021.
