OnePlus Co-Founder Announces "Nothing", His New Company

The co-founder of OnePlus, Carl Pei, has announced his new company, and it’s called “Nothing”. Carl Pei has been teasing this announcement for a while now, and we finally have its name. We also got some additional detail.

In a press release, it’s said that the company is based in London. The company’s mission is “to remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future”.

“Nothing” believes technology should be beautiful, natural and intuitive to use

The company’s CEO also added that the company believes that the best technology is “beautiful, yet natural and intuitive to use”. At a certain point, the “technology should fade into the background and feel like nothing”, says Mr. Pei.

As some of you already know, Carl Pei ran a round of financing last year, where he collected $7 million. That happened in December 2020. Some well-known people decided to invest, including Tony Fadell, Casey Neistat, Kevin Lin, Steve Huffman, and Josh Buckley.

Nothing has confirmed that its first smart devices will arrive in the first half of this year. At this point, it is completely unknown what we’ll get, though. Back in December last year, it was reported that he’s getting into the audio business.

It is odd that in this new press release, nothing audio-related is mentioned. “Nothing” hasn’t been classified as an audio company, so maybe they’ll start with audio products, and work their way from that point. We’ll have to wait and see.

Carl Pei left OnePlus last year

Carl Pei is no longer a part of OnePlus. He parted ways with the company last year, after being there since the company’s inception. Carl Pei co-founded OnePlus with Pete Lau, who remained OnePlus’ CEO.

Considering what Carl Pei and Pete Lau managed to create out of the OnePlus brand, many people are wondering what will come out of “Nothing”. Carl Pei managed to attract some big names to invest in the company, so he obviously has a plan for it… and hopefully a good one.
