It would not be wrong to say that the next iteration of the wildly successful Samsung Galaxy S series is the most hotly anticipated smartphone device of this year. The rumor mill has been running like crazy churning out all sorts of news and speculations for the upcoming flagship. It is because of these rumors that we can now say that we have sufficient knowledge regarding the purported specs for the device.
However, all rumors should always be taken with a pinch of salt; not because the sources of these rumors would provide false information – many do – but because the specifications of a device during planning stages change when the device finally hits manufacturing. For any device, multiple prototypes enter testing phases, of which only one finally moves into the stages of mass production.
We had been receiving information tidbits that the Samsung flagship would finally be unveiled during the Mobile World Congress, scheduled in February 2014. However, the latest information coming in from multiple sources and citing a “senior Samsung official” claim that we will have to wait a little bit longer before we can lay eyes on the Samsung Galaxy S5.
According to the source of Sammobile – who has been pretty reliable in the past – the Samsung Galaxy S5 would be unveiled during a London-based event, sometime in March this year. Another news source, this time from Samsung’s home country, quotes the said “senior Samsung official” and states that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would be unveiled at a New York event – again in March.
Both the tipsters agree that March would be the month when the Samsung Galaxy S5 makes an appearance, but both have different locations – London and New York. Our own understanding would be that both pieces of information are correct, and Samsung could quite well host simultaneous events to launch the device in the two biggest mobile phone markets – the US and Europe. Previous rumors had suggested an April launch for the device.
ZD Net Korea also cites the “senior Samsung official” as saying that the MWC is “more of a business meeting” and using MWC as a launch pad for the Samsung Galaxy S5 could very well dilute its impact.
