Meizu's VP Talks About 2K Displays & Snapdragon 810 SoC

Meizu is currently one of the fastest-growing smartphones OEMs in the world. The company has managed to sell 8.9 million smartphones in the first half of this year, which might not seem a lot compared to Samsung, for example, but represents a 540% increase for Meizu (compared to H1 2014). That being said, Meizu has already released a number of devices this year, including their MX5 flagship, but the company intends to release yet another flagship smartphone on September 23rd. Meizu has already sent out invites for this event which will be held in China, and the company’s co-founder has confirmed that the device will sport a 5.5-inch 1080p display. The phone’s specs have already leaked as well, but that’s not exactly what we’re here to talk about.

Meizu had lots to say lately, not only about the Pro 5, but their devices in general, as well as some other smartphones and their components. During one of the tech conferences, Meizu has stated that the QHD smartphones are really not a good idea, especially if you pair them with a Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core SoC, which is something quite a few OEMs have done already. Snapdragon 810’s heating issues can create serious issues according to Meizu, if the SoC is working as it should, of course. Meizu’s VP, Li Nan, is usually the person who shares most info with the public when it comes to Meizu and their products. The company’s VP said the following recently: “Today, the price of Chinese high-end phones in 3000-4000 this segment, Qualcomm Xiaolong 810 chip, the choice is definitely frivolous, here really understand the cell phone should understand what I meant to say. But it is sadly no one industry To tell the truth, death did not say a word against 810, the results for China’s consumers are fooled. This is what we have to do high-end brands of root causes. do not tell the truth, and she was good, it is because no one is responsible on the market consumer attitudes to do a really good thing.”

It seems like Meizu is trying to hype up their upcoming smartphone, and also tease its capabilities and price point. The upcoming Meizu Pro 5 smartphone will reportedly ship with Samsung’s Exynos 7420 14nm 64-bit octa-core SoC on the inside, which is currently the most powerful mobile chip on the market. The device will allegedly ship in both 3 and 4GB variants, and a 21-megapixel camera will be available on the back of this device. Meizu has also confirmed that the new version of their Android-based Flyme OS will come pre-installed on this smartphone, the Flyme 5 which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop it seems. That’s more or less it, stay tuned for additional info.
