Xiaomi likes to dabble in pretty much anything tech-related. This China-based smartphone OEM has released a number of interesting gadgets this year, and quite a few smartphones as well. That being said, rumors have been saying that the company is getting ready to announce a laptop for quite some time now, and Inventec has basically confirmed that fact recently. The company has said that the first Xiaomi-branded laptop will arrive early next year, which, of course, meant that we’ll see a ton more rumors along the way.
A couple of days ago a rumor appeared claiming that Xiaomi plans to release two variants of their upcoming laptop, the 12.5 and 13.3-inch models. Now, we didn’t know what specs will those laptops pack back then, and we still don’t, but according to the latest report from China, we do have extra info when it comes to the operating system on these laptops. According to the report, Windows won’t come pre-installed on them, but Linux might. Now, this doesn’t really clear things up because we don’t know which variant of Linux. Is it possible Xiaomi intends to use Linux as it is, or are we going to find a heavily modified version of the system here? We’ll just have to wait and see.
As a side note, Xiaomi might not be the only top China-based smartphone OEM getting ready to enter the laptop business, Huawei might join them. This China-based smartphone OEM has recently claimed ‘MateBook’ trademarked, which suggests they might be ready to join Xiaomi sometime in the future. Not much is known about MateBook either, but things will certainly get far clearer in the coming weeks. Next year will surely going to be interested when it comes to mobile technology, we have a ton of big players fighting for market share, a couple of really powerful SoCs on the way, and it seems like both Xiaomi and Huawei are expanding their horizons. Xiaomi also plans to enter the US market really soon, so that’s something to look forward as well. Anyhow, stay tuned for more info, we’ll report back soon.
