When it comes to paying for things more easily, Square readers have made it simple to pay for goods and services for years, and not long after mobile payments began picking up steam, Square released a new kind of reader which not only accepts the chip-enabled cards that most banks and credit unions are migrating to, but it also accepts mobile payments, including Android Pay. While it will still take some time before more local merchants are using these readers, Square has secured a deal that will help anyone who uses Android Pay and that will be attending the Coachella music festival in the near future.
In Square’s blog post today, they have announced that they are the official and exclusive point of sale at the festival. They have also stated that ever single vendor at the festival will be using the latest Square reader that accepts Android Pay mobile payments, so those with a compatible phone won’t have to worry about fiddling with their wallet or standing in lines waiting for an ATM just to grab some cash to pay for something at the event, although attendees are more than welcome to do so if they prefer to pay for things the old way.
Even though Square readers and Android Pay will be accepted at all event vendors, it’s worth mentioning that to use Android Pay your bank will obviously still have to support the mobile payment platform, and there are still many who don’t. If you’re heading to the festival, you may want to double chek with your bank to see if they are supporting mobile payments through Android Pay yet. With Square’s new readers in place, those who have Android Pay or the new chip-enabled cards will be able to pay for things more securely. The new Square readers don’t just accept Android Pay though, as they also accept other contactless payments like Samsung Pay, so whether you have a Samsung device or another smartphone brand that uses the Android Pay app, you should be able to use mobile payments at the festival whether you want food, drinks, or merchandise.
