Automatic has already announced two OBD-II adapters. There’s the original Automatic, which was a pretty impressive OBD-II adapter and it would read the computers in your car and send it to your phone – which was connected via Bluetooth. Some of the more interesting things that it would do is let you know what specifically is wrong with your car’s engine, as well as letting you know how far you can drive with the amount of gas left in your car. Recently, the company announced the Automatic Pro, which uses 3G to connect to their service, and is subscription free for 5 years – although Automatic didn’t say whether there would be a subscription after that.
Now there is the Automatic Lite. The cheapest adapter the company has ever put out. The Automatic Lite is subscription free, as you’d expect, and does still feature everything you’ve come to know and love about Automatic. This includes making it easier to own a car, with the fact that it’ll let you know why the Check Engine Light has come on. It allows you to expense trips pretty easily, and you can track gas expenses as well. This means that if you use your car a lot to travel for work, you can expense your trips using services like Expensify, Xero, Concur and Freshbooks, all of which are already integrated and will automatically create itemized expense reports.
The Automatic Lite also helps you improve your fuel efficiency. By giving you tips about how to get better gas mileage and even more miles to the gallon. Some of the more popular tips is to not commit a hard acceleration, or a hard brake. As well as staying below 70 MPH, because when you go faster than that, the car will use more gas and give you worse fuel efficiency. The best speed to go at is actually 60 MPH, which will give you the best fuel efficiency.
Automatic Lite will be available soon from Amazon, Best Buy and Automatic’s own website for just $79.95. They did not give any information in their press release as to when it’ll actually be available for purchase.
