FCC Confirms Three Cameras & mmWave 5G For The Motorola Edge+

Motorola‘s upcoming flagship smartphone, the Motorola Edge+, may not elude the market for too long now. The Motorola Edge+ has just passed through the FCC, hinting of an imminent launch. The FCC listing also confirms some of the rumors about the phone.

Firstly, we now have the official logo for the Motorola Edge+. The “Edge” logo is pretty much the same that leaked last month, except for the plus icon on the top right side. Needless to say, the new logo fits perfectly with the device’s name.

A 3D render of the Motorola Edge+ has also revealed that the phone will feature a triple camera setup on the back. The setup doesn’t look different from the one that appeared in CAD-based renders last week, seemingly backing up that leaked design.

Rumors have it that the rear camera array may include a 108-megapixel primary camera, while the other two are rumored to be 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel units.

It’s unclear what type of sensors those are, though. One of them could be an ultra-wide lens and the other a telephoto lens if we go by the current trend.

The Motorola Edge+ FCC listing has also confirmed the presence of mmWave 5G support on the Edge+, at least in the US version. Along with CDMA and LTE networks, the device will also support 5G NR n260: 37GHz~40GHz and 5G NR n261: 27.5GHz~28.35GHz bands.

Rumors suggest that the Edge+ would be a Verizon-exclusive phone in the US. The Big Red recently managed to achieve peak speeds of 4.2 Gbps on its live mmWave 5G network using a Motorola device, which is likely the Motorola Edge+.

Motorola Edge+ specs

The Motorola Edge+ is the company’s first 5G phone and also its first true flagship since the Moto Z3, which launched back in Q3 2018. The handset will run on the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset paired with the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem.

It features a 6.67-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) curved “waterfall” display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The punch-hole in the top-left corner of the display will house a 25-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Motorola Edge+ may also get a 5,000mAh battery and up to 12GB of RAM. This device supports 6K resolution video recording with HEVC toggle.

There’s no word yet on when the Motorola Edge+ will arrive on the market. However, now that the phone has gotten its FCC certification, an official announcement shouldn’t be too far.

Motorola also has a couple of mid-range handsets awaiting launch. The Moto G8 Power Lite and the Motorola One Mid could well arrive with the Motorola Edge+ in the coming weeks.
