The OnePlus 8T may cost less than the OnePlus 8T, and now we know what’s the main reason for that. I mean, there are several reasons why that is quite possible, but the newest piece of information clears things up.
The OnePlus 8T may cost less than the OnePlus 8, and its camera sensor is one of the main reasons why
This information comes from Ishan Agarwal, and it confirms what sensor will OnePlus use for the OnePlus 8T main camera. It seems like the company will go for the Sony IMX586.
For those of you who don’t know, that is the main sensor on the OnePlus 8, not the 8 Pro. The OnePlus 8 Pro uses the Sony IMX689 sensor, which is newer and better than the IMX586.
The Sony IMX586 has been used on the company’s flagship phones from 2019 as well, both the OnePlus 7 and 7T series phones. The OnePlus 8 Pro is the first OnePlus phone to utilize the IMX689.
That being said, the IMX586 is considerably more affordable than the IMX689. That is probably one of the main reasons why the rumors that the OnePlus 8T will cost less than the OnePlus 8 may be accurate.
OnePlus did confirm that it does not plan to release the OnePlus 8T Pro, so the OnePlus 8 Pro will remain the most powerful phone in the company’s lineup. It will also remain the most expensive phone the company ever released.
Ishan Agarwal also confirmed that the company is planning to use a 16-megapixel camera on the front, it will utilize the Sony IMX471 sensor. He did not mention the rest of the phone’s cameras, though.
The pricing for this phone will probably start at €599 in Europe
This camera choice does partially explain why the OnePlus 8T may cost €599, which is also the info that Ishan Agarwal shared. That will be the price tag for the 8GB RAM model, while the 12GB RAM variant will cost €699.
The OnePlus 8, as most of you know, launched at €729. That was the phone’s price tag for the entry-level model. The device is currently discounted to €669, and even with that price tag, it isn’t more affordable than the 8T (based on what’s rumored).
The OnePlus 8T was initially reported to cost €799 for the base model, but that rumor is almost certainly inaccurate. OnePlus also decided to cut costs in some other areas, like wireless charging, for example.
The OnePlus 8T will not include wireless charging, while the OnePlus 8 Pro does. The OnePlus 8 does not ship with wireless charging either, by the way. This phone will also include a fullHD+ 120Hz display, while the OnePlus 8’s display is limited to 90Hz. This will be a flat panel, though.
All in all, the OnePlus 8T does seem like a promising phone. It will launch on October 14, and if you’d like to know more about the device, check out our preview.
