The Motorola Edge Plus announced in the first half of this year helped the Lenovo-owned company to get back into the flagship segment. As per a new leak, Motorola will reportedly launch a high-end smartphone codenamed Nio in 2021. Instead of using the upcoming Snapdragon 875, the company seems to have opted for the current-gen Snapdragon 865 mobile platform.
The company might have decided to use the Snapdragon 865 chipset to keep the costs down. Moreover, there shouldn’t be a big difference in performance. This will also help Motorola to launch this new high-end smartphone at a very aggressive price. According to the source, the Motorola Nio will come with the model number XT2125.
Motorola to come up with a high-end smartphone powered by Snapdragon 865 SoC in 2021
While the base variant is said to feature 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, the company will also launch the 12GB + 256GB variant for power users. The device will sport a punch-hole display with Full HD+ (2520 x 1080 pixels) resolution on the front. While it offers a high refresh rate, there is no confirmation whether it will be a 90Hz or 120Hz.
Moreover, the company should be opting for the AMOLED over the IPS LCD panel. The punch-hole cut-out will accommodate a dual selfie camera setup featuring a 16-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel secondary camera. On the rear, it will reportedly sport a 64-megapixel primary camera, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 2-megapixel depth camera.
It might officially launch in the first quarter of next year
While the Snapdragon 865 is more than good enough for a regular user, it will likely miss out on the new advancements Qualcomm will reveal in the coming weeks. The all-new Snapdragon 875 SoC will be unveiled during the Snapdragon Tech Summit event scheduled for December 1.
Like the Snapdragon 865-powered Motorola Edge Plus, this new Moto smartphone should also support both the sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G networks. The Motorola Nio will be running on the latest Android 11 out of the box. Unlike other major OEM’s, Motorola will offer close to stock Android experience with no bloatware.
If it is part of the Motorola One series, the device will also receive two years of major OS updates and three years of monthly security patches. As of now, there are no renders of this device to reveal its design. However, the upcoming leaks should reveal the first look and complete specifications of Motorola’s high-end smartphone launching early next year.
