Back in December 2020, Sony shared its Android 11 update timeline. Right after that it actually began with the rollout with Xperia 1 II becoming the first device to get Android 11. Now, Sony Xperia 10 II is getting an Android 11 update.
At the beginning of this month, Sony started pushing the stable Android 11 update for the Xperia 1 and 5 units. It was quite interesting to see the update coming way before the scheduled date, as both the Xperia 1 and 5 devices were scheduled to pick up the update in February.
Moreover, the recent device from Sony that got updated with Android 11 was the Xperia 5 II. Here as well, Sony delivered the update before time.
Coming back to the Sony Xperia 10 II Android 11 update, it is arriving right on time as per the update timeline. According to a report by XDA, the 2020 mid-ranger is receiving the update via OTA.
It arrives with a build number 51.1.A.0.485 and the size of the update is around 994MB. So, we would advise you to download the update on a stable Wi-Fi internet connection to avoid any issues.
Sony Xperia 10 II sadly stays at December 2020 security patch
Though the Android 11 update brings all the latest goodies that Google has to offer, it sadly keeps the security patch level at December 2020. Which could have been amazing if it included the January 2021 patch.
Besides, the Google Play System update also remains in December 2020. Talking about the features this new update brings, Android 11 brings a new conversations tab, built-in screen recorder, chat bubbles, smart home, and media controls, improved privacy controls, etc.
As usual, Sony did not share a proper changelog for the update. However, XDA confirms it brings the Battery Care feature. Basically, it lets you set the maximum charging limit to 80% or 90%.
After which when you plug in the charger it will charge up to the set limit. This helps to increase the battery life. The update is currently rolling out in South East Asia, but it is expected to expand to more regions in the coming days.
If your Sony Xperia 10 II hasn’t detected the Android 11 update, then you can check for the update manually in the region where the update is live.
In order to do that, head over to your phone’s Settings menu. From there, go to the System section and finally press System update.
If there is no luck with the in-built software update checker, then you can still skip the queue. Apparently, you can grab the update package file from community-created tools like XperiFirm and Newflasher.
As for the genuineness of the files are concerned, these are straight from the company’s update server for manual flashing. So, you won’t be having any issues after installing.
