Well, Mobile World Congress is just around the corner, it actually starts on Monday. Which means you are going to see a ton of Android news coming from Android Headlines this weekend and next week. Just like with CES, we’re going to have a ton of coverage. And this is here is your guide to everything Mobile World Congress. We’ll be seeing a bit from LG, quite a bit from Samsung, along with some from Sony, Acer, ASUS, Huawei and possibly ZTE.
LG
So far, LG has pretty much announced everything that we thought they’d announce at Mobile World Congress. This past weekend they announced the Optimus G Pro, which has some killer specs. They Also announced their F series, the F5 and F7. But the Korean manufacturer did release a teaser video showing at least 4 new devices coming at Mobile World Congress. So we’ll have to wait and see what LG has up their sleeves.
HTC
HTC has already announced their flagship device for 2013, this past week. Which is the HTC One. Now we’ve seen other devices leak with the codename M4 and G2, which are said to be mid-range and low-end devices, so we might see some more goodness from HTC in Barcelona. But I wouldn’t count on anything huge coming from them.
Samsung
It’s been rumored that Samsung has a ton of devices in the pipeline. Now if we’ll see them all at Mobile World Congress or not is the other thing. We are almost 100% sure that the Galaxy Note 8.0 will be there since Samsung Mobile’s Head confirmed we’d see the Galaxy Note in a new size in Barcelona. But there has also been rumored about the Galaxy S Kit, Galaxy S Mate, Galaxy S Impact, Galaxy S Act, Galaxy Tab 3, and the Galaxy Q. Many people were also hoping for the Galaxy S4 to show it’s face at Mobile World Congress, but it won’t happen. We all know Samsung wants its own event to announce their flagship device that they are projecting to sell 100 million of.
Sony
Recently, we’ve seen a few Sony devices leaked, like the Xperia L and Xperia SP. Now there’s a big chance they won’t be at Mobile World Congress since we haven’t heard a whole lot about them yet. But from what we heard, they will not be coming to the US. But Sony will more than likely make a formal announcement of the Xperia Tablet Z which NTT DoCoMo announced in late January.
Acer
It looks like Acer is trying to get some Android phones in the mix at Mobile World Congress. We’ve seen a few devices leaked of theirs including the Liquid E1 and Liquid Z2, these are kind of odd names, but I guess “Liquid” is Acer’s brand they are trying to push. Similar to Samsung’s Galaxy and HTC’s One. I’d expect them to be low-end to mid-range devices, but we could be wrong.
ASUS
ASUS almost always has something for us. There’s been that rumored Fonepad for a little while now. We could also see a prototype of the next Nexus 7. If you remember CES 2012, ASUS showed off a 7-inch tablet that had a Tegra 3 and was $250. Then you fast forward to June 2012 at Google I/O, that tablet is now the Nexus 7. So we’ll have to keep our eyes open and on ASUS this week.
Huawei
Huawei has a few devices leaked that we might see. Including the MediaPad 10 Link, which looked to be a cheap, mid-range tablet. At least according to leaks. Then there’s the Ascend P2 which looks pretty promising. After what they announced at CES last month, it’ll be interesting to see what they have up their sleeves.
This year Google will not be in Barcelona. Which is kind of sad, since their booth was always really cool. Last year they had a big bowl of Jelly Beans at their booth, so I wonder if they couldn’t find enough Key Lime Pie for 2013? Nonetheless, you can expect big things from Google in May at Google I/O which we’ll be covering in-depth as well.
Final Thoughts
We may see some other devices from other manufacturers that we didn’t list above, but they are kinda unlikely. But Mobile World Congress is looking to be a rather slow show this year. We’ll still have more than enough coverage for you to get your fill of Android news in from Barcelona. So make sure you keep it looked to Android Headlines for all the news.
