As this was CES’ first official day, the times for the major press conferences were over and the show floors were opened up to all attendees. With that, there was much to see and do at what is arguably the largest trade show dedicated to consumer electronics, and as always a lot of it is rather exciting. There may not have been quite as much announced today as there were the last two days, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t any cool noteworthy tech.
With day one pretty much out of the way, there’s been virtual reality headsets and more Bluetooth speakers making appearances. While most of the VR landscape at this point seems to focus on providing users with a means to connect a virtual reality headset to existing hardware, devices such as Pico’s Neo CV headset are designed to invite you into the world of VR without the need to attach a device to it. This not only likely promotes a cost friendly option as you’ll won’t need to purchase additional equipment to make the headset work, it also makes for a much quicker experience of opening the box and diving right into the content. While not VR, Microsoft announced new details for their HoloLens Augmented Reality headset, and it seems that PC hardware manufacturers will actually be handling the production of consumer versions of the HoloLens, meaning each company who makes one will have a headset that is fitted with its own specs and design. So far companies like Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Acer have been mentioned as current partners.
Continuing with virtual reality, the Daydream platform also picked up some newly confirmed compatible hardware, as the ZTE Axon 7, Huawei Mate 9 Pro, and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design will all be supporting Daydream. If VR isn’t really your thing, then there was no shortage of audio products to see. Samsung for example, showed off two new speakers with the H7 Wireless Speaker and the MS750 Soundbar. Both are designed elegantly and aimed at providing an enhanced audio experience in the living room (although could really be used elsewhere too), each also offering a few different unique traits that will appeal to certain consumers.
